13 December 2023 | The Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has published on its website the update to 31 July 2023 of the domestic government securities database. This tool provides users with an interactive dashboard of the main information on the developments in Italy’s public debt, together with an effective infographic.
The data, sourced from the Bank of Italy and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (Department of the Treasury), are used by the PBO as inputs for its interest expenditure forecasting model.
More specifically, users can analyse the history of each individual security in the database, as well as aggregate data for issues, redemptions, net issues and outstanding securities, the associated interest expenditure, and the distributions of several indicators (composition of issues and stocks by type of security, year of issue and interest rate applied; average overall and at issue rates by year of issue and type of security; average residual maturity by year of issue and type of security).
The current infographic shows the increase in financing costs resulting from increases in government securities yields, the growth in net purchases of securities by private investors, the possible impact on government securities yields and interest expenditure.
