On 19 March, the Chairman of the alternate members of the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), Steen Lohmann Poulsen, and the Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee (EPC), Jens Granlund, replied in a joint letter to the initiative of 2 February this year with which the independent fiscal institutions (IFIs) of the EU Member States raised the issue of enhancing their effectiveness within European economic governance arrangements. In their letter, Poulsen and Granlund expressed their willingness to share technical documentation on the functioning of the Stability and Growth Pact with the IFIs. They also concurred that it was necessary to increase the involvement of the IFIs and suggested holding an annual discussion meeting to discuss methodological issues of common interest.
