On 16 September 2014, the Board of the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO), chaired by Giuseppe Pisauro, together with a number of PBO staff members, met with a delegation from the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission, led by Marie Donnay, head of the unit responsible for Italy. The meeting, which forms part of the monitoring activities of DG ECFIN within the Macroeconomic Imbalances Procedure, focused on the establishment of the PBO and its governance arrangements. It also served as an opportunity for an initial discussion of the start of the PBO’s activities in analysing macroeconomic issues and developments in the public finances.
