The President of the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO), Lilia Cavallari, took part in the 5th joint workshop between the European Independent Fiscal Institutions (EU-IFIs) and representatives of the European Central Bank (ECB) system in Frankfurt on September 24th, speaking at the policy panel focused on the theme “Ensuring fiscal resilience and efficiency in Europe.”
In her speech, President Cavallari emphasized the role of independent fiscal authorities in strengthening the transparency of fiscal policy and promoting a full understanding of the consequences of public policies. Transparency and knowledge are all the more important in light of new and increased spending pressures.
The debate, moderated by Oscar Arce of the European Central Bank, also featured Pieter Hasencamp, President of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Research (CPB) and the European Fiscal Board, Atanas Kolev of the European Investment Bank, and Mateusz Szczurek, member of the board of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.
The full day of in-depth discussions provided an opportunity for debate on the effective implementation of the new European economic governance rules and the spending pressures for the common challenges that Europe faces.
