OECD Workshop on Tools for Analysing the Impact of Climate Change on Public Finances

22 January 2025 | Hosted by the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO), the OECD workshop on tools for analysing the impact of climate change on public finances was held on 21 and 22 January 2025 at Palazzo San Macuto in Rome.

The two-day event was opened by Lilia Cavallari, Chair of the PBO, Daria Perrotta, State Accountant General, and Jon Blondal, Head of the Public Management and Budgeting Division of the OECD Public Governance Directorate. Around 70 officials from various independent fiscal institutions of OECD member countries attended the workshop.

The growing urgency to consider the effects of climate change and extreme events requires the development of analytical tools that provide a common framework. This includes identifying relevant expenditure and revenue items, quantifying climate-related risks, and projecting their long-term fiscal consequences. The feedback from the workshop will contribute to further refining the analytical tools currently being developed by independent fiscal institutions.
